Hironobu Kageyama

Hironobu Kageyama (影山ヒロノブ) is a Japanese singer-songwriter, composer, arranger and producer from Osaka. He made his professional debut at 16 in 1977 as the vocalist of LAZY, the teenage rock band behind songs including ‘Akazukin-chan Goyoujin’ and ‘DREAMER’. After LAZY split in the early 1980s, Kageyama continued as a solo singer; the band later reunited in 1998.

From 1985, Kageyama became closely associated with anime and tokusatsu music, beginning with the theme for Dengeki Sentai Changeman. His catalogue went on to include songs for Space Sagittarius and Saint Seiya, before ‘CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA’ became the opening theme for Dragon Ball Z in 1989. His management credits the single with sales of 1.3 million copies. He later returned to Dragon Ball Z with ‘WE GOTTA POWER’, and has sung more than 1,000 anime and tokusatsu songs across his career.

In 2000, Kageyama helped form JAM Project and remains the group’s leader. Around the same period he developed the acoustic side of his solo work, touring with Masaaki Endoh as ‘Akogi na Futari Tabi da ze!!’ before beginning solo acoustic tours in 2003. The format became a long-running part of his career alongside JAM Project, songwriting and production work, and appearances at anime events around the world.

Kageyama’s work extends beyond singing. He writes lyrics, composes, arranges and produces music for his own projects and other artists, while continuing to record new tie-in songs. Recent releases include 2024’s ‘STARRAIL DISCO ～踊れ 開拓者～’, written by Kageyama for a Honkai: Star Rail HoYoFair project and composed and arranged by NANA KAGEYAMA, and ‘Ai ga Seigi’ for 2025’s No.1 Sentai Gozyuger.

In July 2026, he released ‘ZERO’, the theme for the ‘NEO’ downloadable content for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. Kageyama wrote and composed the song, with NANA KAGEYAMA arranging it, serving as his first theme for the Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! game series in roughly 18 years.
