Tokyo’s experimental jazz threesome mouse on the keys will make their way back to the UK in April as part of their 2016 European tour.
Formed in 2006, mouse on the keys are Akira Kawasaki and Atsushi Kyiota, formerly part of Japanese underground post-hardcore band Nine Days Wonder, and Daisuke Niitome. Blending minimal phrased piano and dynamic drumming, this trio have created a refined sound similar to contemporary classical, bringing together elements of Jazz, funk, post-rock, and electronic music, but with the energy and aggression of a hardcore gig.
In the words of Kawasaki himself during an interview with Red Bull Music Academy, “The concept was: “Utilizing elements of modern French music represented by composers such as Debussy and Ravel, along with the hardcore music of the ’80s and ’90s that our drummer Akira Kawasaki was influenced by, and mixing them in a style reminiscent of Detroit techno.””
mouse on the keys will kick off their eight day tour in Germany on April 25th, followed by two UK headline shows in Brighton and Leeds, and a support slot for Three Trapped Tigers in London.
