Kyoto garage punk outfit Otoboke Beaver have announced that they’ll be dropping their new album SUPER CHAMPON this May.
Released via UK label Damnably, the new album follows the band’s 2019 breakthrough riot grrrl LP Itekoma Hits. SUPER CHAMPON will feature 18 tracks including their 2020 single Dirty old fart is waiting for my reaction, and 2019’s Don’t call me Mojo.
Coinciding with the album’s announcement, the band also released a chaotic animated music video, created by guitarist yoyoyoshie, for the opening track I am not maternal.
In a statement about the new album the band described the meaning behind the name.
“CHAMPON is a Japanese noun meaning a mixture or jumble of things of different type. It’s a mixture of songs from love to food, life, and JASRAC. Our music is genreless and has various elements. We hope that it will be our masterpiece of chaos music. It also sounds like champion.”
Otoboke Beaver kick off their SUPER CHAMPON 2022 tour in the US later this month with the EU and UK leg of the tour starting in May. The tour includes 4 UK dates with shows in London, Glasgow, Manchester, and Bristol.
