Electro-funk duo Milk Talk have released their inaugural self-titled album, a chic retrospective spanning four years of their bittersweet analogue funk journey. Released on November 8th, the album, recorded beneath the shadow of Himeji Castle in Japan, features a mix of new compositions, retooled mixes, and previously unreleased tracks.

Highlighted by the mesmerising vocals of Tokyo-based Q.i and the vintage synthesiser prowess of New Jersey-native Hair Kid, the album’s lead single, ‘The Velvet Line’, and the revamped ‘Subway is a Lady’ showcase the duo’s distinctive fusion of synth-driven disco and delicate Japanese vocals.

Notable inclusions are the full-length presentation of Kitsuné Musique-released single ‘Playboy’ and the reworked mixes of ‘Ah Be Rue’ and ‘Transistor Lover.’

For the limited edition cassette release, the 8-track album has been remastered on a 1970s Studer half-inch tape machine by Gus Elg at Sky Onion Mastering in Portland, Oregon, to truly capture Milk Talk’s unique electro-funk sound. This release also marks the physical premieres of tracks ‘Pixelated Girl’ and ‘Sakura Chill.’

Born in New York and currently residing 600km apart, Milk Talk’s album encapsulates their collaborative evolution since relaunching in 2020.

Commenting on the album’s release on Twitter, the duo said “We finally f*cking did it. It’s here.”

Experience Milk Talk’s synth boogie odyssey as they embark on a live tour in Japan starting November 23rd in Osaka.
