X JAPN rock icon, YOSHIKI, has been tapped to produce the official global theme song for Sanrio’s upcoming Hello Kitty 50th-anniversary celebration. The Japanese conglomerate announced the collaboration on January 9th, underscoring the enduring friendship between YOSHIKI and the iconic character, notably their 2009 joint creation, “yoshikitty”.

Expressing deep gratitude, YOSHIKI stated, “Kitty-chan, congratulations on the 50th anniversary. I feel extremely honoured to receive an offer to create an official global theme song for this wonderful event”. The song, set for release around spring 2024, aims to bring joy and energy to listeners worldwide, especially during challenging times.

YOSHIKI and Hello Kitty have participated in various collaborations over the years, including appearances on YOSHIKI’s NicoNico Channel and performances at his annual dinner shows. YOSHIKI pledges to compose the song with heartfelt effort, hoping to showcase the timeless charm of Hello Kitty to a global audience.

Moreover, on the same day, YOSHIKI unveiled his cement handprints and footprints outside Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre. The first Japanese artist to have a hand and footprint ceremony, YOSHIKI joins the just over 300 iconic artists who have left their mark on the theatre’s nearly 100-year history.
