Osaka post-hardcore ensemble waterweed have released their latest digital single, ‘Cure’, the opening theme for the new anime series ‘The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic’, currently airing on Crunchyroll.

Veterans in Japan’s underground hardcore scene, waterweed have embraced evolution since their inception in 2003, resulting in a discography brimming with both hardcore slugfests and skate punk anthems.

INTERVIEW: WATERWEED – RISING FROM THE UNDERGROUND

‘The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic’ is an anime adaptation of the light novel series written by Kurokata and illustrated by KeG. It revolves around Usato, skilled in the misunderstood art of healing magic, as he navigates the challenges of the battlefield. The anime adaptation, produced by Studio Add and Shin-Ei Animation, began airing on January 5th and has garnered positive reception from viewers due to its engaging plot, likable characters, and a unique twist on the isekai genre.

Regarding the new single, frontman Tomohiro Ohga reflects on his personal journey, drawing parallels with the anime’s main character.

“Having gained and lost along the way, I have traversed countless nights. Regrets have been washed away with sweat and tears. I’ve long forgotten how to give up. Even if scars remain, it’s fine if I can laugh in the end. This song mirrors my musical life. Rising up again and again, the challenges of Usato and myself intertwine. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. I hope it resonates in everyone’s hearts.”
