Japan’s coolest hip-hop duo, Yurufuwa Gang, have joined the lineup for this year’s Great Escape Festival, one of the biggest music showcases in Europe. Comprised of NENE and Ryugo Ishida, Yurufuwa Gang have been igniting Japan’s music scene with their provocative lyricism and infectious beats since their inception in 2017.

Drawing inspiration from UK garage, RnB, noise, old-school rap, and even Quentin Tarantino, the duo have become synonymous with high-octane performances and unorthodox sound. With their playful and positive approach, exemplified by their trippy and psychedelic music videos, Yurufuwa Gang have emerged as underground trailblazers in Japan’s hip-hop landscape.

The Great Escape Festival, running from May 15th to 18th, will feature over 450 artists across more than 30 stages throughout Brighton. This year’s lineup boasts a diverse mix of musical talent, including acts like Helsinki Lambda Club, Cryalot, Soft Play, Zheani, and LITE.

At Coachella Festival earlier this month, NENE, alongside LANA, MaRI, and YURIYAN RETRIEVER, joined Okinawa hip-hop legend Awich on stage to perform their 2023 hit ‘Bad Bitch Bigaku’ as part of the groundbreaking ‘88rising Futures’ showcase.

Yurufuwa Gang’s 2023 album ‘Journey’ is a kaleidoscopic odyssey into their creative minds. From the conceptual frame of travel to sonic experimentation across various genres, the album shows off the duo’s penchant for the unconventional.
