On May 14th, indie band Lamp announced their first North American tour, titled ‘FUTURE BEHIND ME’. Just two days after the general ticket release, all 15 shows across the continent completely sold out.
Lamp, consisting of multi-instrumentalist Yusuke Nagai, vocalist Kaori Sakakibara, and guitarist Taiyo Someya, were formed in 2000 during the bandmates’ college years. The band have released nine albums to date, with their most recent, ‘Dusk to Dawn’, released in October 2023. This tour marks their first venture into North America. Band member Taiyo Someya stated, “The idea for the tour is ‘Nice to meet you, I’m Lamp,’ and we plan to mainly perform past songs”.

Lamp’s music is characterized by a mix of jazz, soul, and bossa nova, heavily influenced by the 1960s and 1970s, which the band members share a common love for. Their sound is known for its dreamy, relaxed pop and soft rock elements, featuring delicately sung vocals. This distinctive style has garnered them a dedicated following both in Japan and internationally.
Running from August to October, the tour will take place in conjunction with the band’s support dates on Mitski’s ‘The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We’ 2024 tour in September.
As to when Lamp intend to tour the rest of the world, Taiyo Someya has said “I would like to gradually move forward so that we can tour in other countries and regions in the future. Please look forward to it”.
