ELAIZA mixes 90s techno with eerie heist video for ‘Tamashii’

ELAIZA has released her latest single titled ‘Tamashii’ (‘Soul’), along with a music video. The track released on July 10th.

‘Tamashii’ is club-centric, yet gentle, with ELAIZA’s soft and smooth almost spoken word vocals sitting atop a pulsating beat. The track is inspired by 90’s techno. Some commenters online have compared the track to acts such as Denki Groove and Underworld, with its repeating rhythmic beat, and electronic sounds. The song’s lyrics, music, and arrangement were handled by Taiiku Okazaki, known for his own solo career with often comedic songs and anime tie-ins. ‘Tamashii’ is a departure from those sounds, favouring a mature and club-like atmosphere.

The video for ‘Tamashii’ features ELAIZA sitting front and center as a hostage during a robbery, continuously staring into the camera. It’s hard to tear your eyes away, her gaze feeling unsettling yet calming at the same time. The action unfolds in the background, eventually taking a turn for the supernatural as ELAIZA seemingly controls the criminals’ movements.

“Hello! I’m Okazaki Taiiku! I created a song based on ELAIZA’s request and it turned out to be such a cool song that I honestly wanted to keep it for myself! I guess it’s still not too late. Maybe I should just say something to ELAIZA. Could you please give it back to me? I guess it’s impossible. To be honest, it’s only cooler because ELAIZA is singing it. It belongs to ELAIZA. Well, what really made me happiest was that ELAIZA and her team offered me the role! I’m going to boil udon!”
