Rock duo THE SPELLBOUND return with their new single ‘Unknown’, their first release in nearly a year. This track serves as a preview from their upcoming second album ‘Voyager’, scheduled for release on August 28th.
Released on July 10th, ‘Unknown’ includes rhythmic lyrics penned by Yusuke Kobayashi (vocals, guitar) about yearning for an unknown lover who appears in a dream, along with an expansive soundscape by Masayuki Nakano (programming, bass). The accompanying music video, directed by Shuntaro, takes the viewer through a dynamic performance by the band in singular long-take style. It also highlights the contributions of support drummers Yoko Fukuda and yahyel’s Kazuya Ooi.
Reflecting on the video, Yusuke Kobayashi shared on Twitter:
“In just about three minutes, various stories are packed into it. With snow falling in the studio, Ooi-kun and Yoko-san drumming under flashes of lightning, a burning sunset, and Nakano-san bathed in the light reflecting off the water, the whole stage feels like a mysterious revolving lantern of memories. I am grateful for every encounter.”

Alongside the single release, THE SPELLBOUND announced their ‘BIG LOVE TOUR Vol.2 2024 -Voyager-‘, a nationwide solo tour following the album’s launch, spanning six locations across Japan.
‘Unknown’ is now available on all major digital platforms, with ‘Voyager’ slated for release next month. The album’s first edition includes a CD and Blu-ray featuring three music videos and a behind-the-scenes ‘Making of Voyager’ segment.

Formed by Masayuki Nakano (formerly of BOOM BOOM SATELLITES) and Yusuke Kobayashi (from THE NOVEMBERS), THE SPELLBOUND made their debut in January 2021 with the digital single ‘HAJIMARI’. Their music quickly gained traction, culminating in their first full album ‘THE SPELLBOUND’ in February 2022. Notably, their single ‘Subete ga Soko ni Arimasu You ni.’ in November 2022 was featured as the ending song for Golden Kamuy season 4.

Masayuki Nakano, who debuted with BOOM BOOM SATELLITES in 1997, brings decades of experience in programming and bass, complemented by Yusuke Kobayashi’s distinctive vocals and guitar work. Together, they continue to evolve their sound, blending rock with atmospheric elements.
