GACKT revives YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz after 12 years for limited 5-year run

GACKT has announced a YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz reunion, 12 years after their disbandment.

According to GACKT’s official announcement, the group will resume activities for a limited time of 5 years. Their first show, on October 10th, will be as part of KISHIDAN’s festival titled ‘Kishidan Banpaku 2024 ~Shin Kishidan Banpaku~’, alongside acts such as AiNA THE END, ano, the GazettE, and more. The band’s first official show will be a 2-night extravaganza at Tokyo’s Zepp Haneda on December 24th and 25th. What a way to spend your Christmas!

Notably, the announcement makes mention of new band members, but they have yet to be revealed. This implies that no original members will be returning, and we may have to wait until October to find out. It also says this is an evolved version of YFC, now known as GACKT YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz.

GACKT took to X (formerly Twitter) back on July 12th to say he’s been working hard for the last 3 years to “build a body that can withstand YFC”. He also asked fans to scream until they’re hoarse, and to come at him with all their might.

Additionally, GACKT has been announced as a cast member of the upcoming Takashi Miike movie ‘BLUE FIGHT’. He will act alongside singer and actress Anna Tsuchiya, and ex-AKB48 singer and actress Mariko Shinoda, with more cast members still to be announced. The story will revolve around two young men who meet in a detention center and aim to compete on the real-life reality fighting series ‘Breaking Down’. The film will see its Japanese theatrical release in January 2025.

YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz originally started as a GACKT solo project back in 2010, but quickly became a full band. Their first live was a men-only show at Kawasaki’s CLUB CITTA’ on March 21st 2010, the idea of which was to boost men’s spirit and sexuality. They later went on to hold a women-only swimsuit concert, as well as touring Europe and Japan. They released one studio album, 2 singles, a live album, and a handful of live videos. The band’s lineup was GACKT (vocals), Jon (vo.), You, Chachamaru, and Takumi on guitar, U:zo from RIZE on bass, and Shinya from LUNA SEA on drums. The band ceased activities in 2012.
