Genie High release new single ‘No Makeup Star’ featuring Utaha from WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA

Indie supergroup Genie High have released their latest single, ‘ノーメイクスター’ (‘No Makeup Star’), today, September 4th. The track features guest vocals from Utaha, frontwoman of WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA and a rising solo artist.

Blending Genie High’s progressive sound with Utaha’s polished, sweet yet commanding vocals, ‘No Makeup Star’ offers listeners a refreshing mix of luxurious melodies and cool undertones. The track showcases a perfect balance between the group’s signature style and Utaha’s unique voice, which harmonises with lead singer Ikkyu Nakajima.

Enon Kawatani, guitarist and producer for Genie High, expressed his admiration for Utaha’s vocal range.

“I’ve always thought Utaha’s voice was incredible, which is why I reached out to her for this collaboration. But I never imagined she could produce so many different vocal tones. Her voice is incredibly strong—almost too strong. She’s such a captivating vocalist, and I hope you get the full impact of her performance in this song.”

Utaha, a long-time fan of the band, also shared her excitement about working with Genie High.

“I’ve always loved listening to Genie High, so I was overjoyed when I got the offer to collaborate. It’s rare for me to get the chance to work with other artists, and the feel of the song was refreshing—it’s different from both WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA and my solo work. Genie High are a Japanese indie band formed in 2017 as part of the BAZOOKA!!! Band Project. The group’s eclectic lineup includes Enon Kawatani of Gesu no Kiwami Otome, Ikkyu Nakajima from tricot, composer Takashi Niigaki, comedian and TV host Kazutoyo Koyabu, and comedic actor Kunihiro Kawashima (Kukki!).
