Perfume drop first concept album ‘Nebula Romance Part 1’

Perfume are marking their 25th anniversary as a group, and 20th anniversary of their major debut, with their new album ‘Nebula Romance Part 1’. The album released digitally today, with a physical release coming on October 30th.

Composed and produced by Yasutaka Nakata, who has collaborated with the group since 2003, the release is part of the group’s first concept album. It has a spacey theme, described as being the soundtrack for an imaginary space movie. The three members, NOCCHi, KASHIYUKA, and a-chan, are shown on the album cover wearing sci-fi style outfits reminiscent of shows such as Star Trek and Macross.

‘Nebula Romance Part 1’ features 10 tracks, including singles ‘Love Cloud’, ‘The Light’, and ‘Sumikko Disco’ which was the theme song for 2023 movie ‘Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: The Mysterious Child of the Makeshift Factory’. Additionally, the album includes ‘Cosmic Treat’ which is the ending theme for the new season of Beyblade X. As well as this, the track ‘IMA IMA IMA’ was used as the theme for Perfume’s exhibition currently being held in Tokyo titled ‘Perfume Disco-Graphy: 25 Years of History and Miracles’.

The group have also announced a nationwide Japan arena tour to commemorate their anniversary as well as the album release. Titled ‘Perfume 10th Tour ZOZ5 “Nebula Romance” Episode 1’, the tour will start on December 28th at Kanagawa Pia Arena, and wrap up on April 20th 2025 at LaLa Arena TOKYO-BAY. Whilst there is no news on international shows, the members have shown interest in the idea. Following the group’s latest Asia tour, KASHIYUKA noted in a comment at a press event on August 8th “We all agreed that we wanted to perform more regularly abroad”.

Not content with a new album, tour, and exhibition, Perfume have also just unveiled their 9th clothing and accessory collection. As part of their ‘Perfume Closet’ fashion project, the members focused on creating items inspired by their songs ‘Moon’, ‘LEVEL3’, and ‘Mugen Mirai’. The collection features casual, easy to wear items, as well as elegant formal wear. Men’s items are also included in the collection.

The physical editions of ‘Nebula Romance Part 1’ are available to pre-order now from CDJapan, with 3 versions on offer. Perfume fan club members can also purchase a special fan club-only edition of the album via ASMART. The fan club-only edition will include a bonus DVD not available with the other versions. The limited and fan club editions will include a special emblem badge as worn by Perfume on the album cover.
