Creepy Nuts drop trippy video for DAN DA DAN theme ‘Otonoke’

Hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts have unleashed the music video for their latest single, ‘Otonoke’, the opening theme for this season’s hit anime DAN DA DAN. Directed by Masaki Watanabe, the video leans into dark, chaotic visuals that perfectly complement the supernatural tone of the show.

The music video throws in a wild mix of experimental visuals, featuring everything from Fatman Scoop-style “big head” effects to chaotic collages and phenakistoscope visuals created using 3D scans of the duo. The result is a dizzying, trippy aesthetic that complements the dark, surreal tone of both the song and the anime.

Musically, ‘Otonoke’ is a high-energy blend of Jersey club beats and emotional hooks, powered by DJ Matsunaga’s production. R-Shitei’s sharp verses and mellow vocal shifts mirror the track’s themes of possession and release, giving it a seamless flow that captures both the chaotic and uplifting spirit of DAN DA DAN’s unpredictable narrative.

Echoing the success of their January global hit ‘Bling-Bang-Bang-Born’, ‘Otonoke’ has already racked up over 20 million streams on Spotify, climbed to the top of Billboard JAPAN’s Global Japan Songs Excl. Japan chart, and ranked 4th on the U.S. iTunes hip-hop chart.

DAN DA DAN, based on the cult-favourite manga by Yukinobu Tatsu, follows Momo Ayase and Okarun as they navigate a bizarre world where ghosts and aliens collide. Now airing on Crunchyroll and produced by Science Saru, the series has quickly become one of the biggest original anime releases of 2024.
