DIR EN GREY to perform ‘VULGAR’ and ‘Withering to death.’ live in Los Angeles

Visual metal powerhouses DIR EN GREY have announced their first U.S. shows in over five years, with performances scheduled in Los Angeles on April 8th and 9th as part of their latest tour, ‘TOUR25 WHO IS THIS HELL FOR?’.

DIR EN GREY will bring their double feature to Los Angeles at The Belasco, a 1500-capacity venue, with a structure similar to this year’s European tour. Each night will showcase a different album; night 1 being titled ‘[mode of VULGAR]’, and night 2 ‘[mode of Withering to death.]’. 2003’s ‘VULGAR’ is seen by some as where modern Diru started to bloom, and has been long awaited to be toured outside of Japan. Guitarist and composer Kaoru noted:

“Just like it happened for the European tour we went on in March, we couldn’t make the project of coming to the U.S. in 2022 as part of our 25th anniversary activities come true either. And now, with so much going on, it is quite difficult to do a proper tour, but (we thought) if it’s for a single show, then it’s doable. It will be a little bit different from the “FROM DEPRESSION TO ________” series; I think it will become a show where the songs from each of those eras mix up and blend with nowadays DIR EN GREY(‘s music).”

DIR EN GREY will perform the respective albums each night alongside modern era Diru tracks. Their London shows back in March of this year showcased their change across the years, featuring 2005’s ‘Withering to death.‘ on night 1, and 2008’s ‘Uroboros’ on night 2. Both shows featured a handful of songs from other albums, including latest release ‘PHALARIS’. The ‘mode of’ series gives fans a chance to relive the band’s previous eras while also seeing the band’s evolution.

Notably, the concerts will be just a short time after frontman Kyo finishes his next Japan tour with Petit Brabancon. Titled ‘Cross Counter -01-‘ the tour will feature shows with a “battle of the bands”.
