New Creepy Nuts song ‘doppelgänger’ announced as theme for UNDER NINJA film

Creepy Nuts have unveiled their new track, ‘doppelgänger’, as the theme song for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Kengo Hanazawa’s manga UNDER NINJA. Yuichi Fukuda (Gintama, Wotakoi) directs the film, which will hit Japanese theaters on January 24th, 2025.

Driven by a pulsing bassline and sharp, danceable production from DJ Matsunaga, ‘doppelgänger’ leans into the concept of duality. The song reflects themes from UNDER NINJA, exploring the secretive, multifaceted lives of its modern ninja protagonists. In a statement, Creepy Nuts shared:

“We believe everyone lives with multiple selves, stealthily navigating their daily lives. The version of ourselves that wrote this song is not quite the same as the version writing this comment right now. Of course, there are sides of ourselves we can’t reveal at all.
These different versions of us come and go, using various techniques to blend into everyday life. Does this seem unrelated to the movie? Maybe. Or maybe not. Find out in the theater!”

The single’s release date remains unannounced, but fans can catch a first listen to ‘doppelgänger’ in the film’s latest trailer, now streaming on the Toho Movie YouTube channel.

The film adapts Hanazawa’s manga, which reimagines the ninja legend in a contemporary setting. With covert warriors operating in today’s society, UNDER NINJA mixes action, dark humour, and secrecy. The cast includes Kento Yamazaki (Alice in Borderland), Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One), and Shotaro Mamiya (Tokyo Revengers).

Yamazaki, who plays lead character Kuro Kumogakure, praised ‘doppelgänger’ for its fit with the film’s tone:

“This song was written specifically for UNDER NINJA, and its lyrics align beautifully with the story. Its mysterious and dark rhythm perfectly captures the atmosphere of ninjas hidden in the modern world. It’s a track that enhances the movie’s allure even after the credits roll. ‘doppelgänger’ continues Creepy Nuts’ streak of high-profile releases, following ‘Bling-Bang-Bang-Born’ and ‘Otonoke’, which proved the duo’s knack for putting out tracks that connect to larger narratives while gaining recognition on a global scale.
