Tokyo-based three-piece emo band Texas 3000 have returned with their latest single, ‘Universe Drawer’, released digitally on January 17th. This marks their first release since their 2023 debut album, ‘tx3k’.
The track draws inspiration from emo sounds reminiscent of Texas emo four-piece Mineral and incorporates elements of noise pop, building on a futuristic concept of “Emo in 2033”.
The idea for the song draws from journalist Ian Cohen’s description of Texas 3000 as representing “the sound of emo in 2013 and, if we’re lucky, 2033″. Writing for UPROXX in his Best Emo Albums of 2023 feature, Cohen highlighted the band’s unconventional blend of “warped sound effects” and “brawny rawk riffs,” noting their ability to merge experimental chaos with crowd-shaking energy. Initially unsure about the label, the band embraced it as a creative challenge to explore the evolving nature of the genre.
The members of Texas 3000—Jojo (guitar, vocals), Kirin (bass), and Sakiyama (drums)—shared brief offbeat comments about the release. Jojo also paid tribute to the late recording engineer Eiji Tani, who worked on ‘tx3k’ as well as records by MELT-BANANA, Bloodthirsty Butchers, envy, and others:

Additionally, Texas 3000 will host two shows in Tokyo and Osaka on January 18th and 23rd as part of their self-organised event series, ‘WEIRD DREAMS’.
Moreover, in late 2024, Texas 3000 were cast into the wider global spotlight when their track ‘Connector Fuck Man’ from their debut album was featured on British artist beabadoobee’s ‘gnochi5000bea’ Spotify playlist.
