Iconic songstress Ayumi Hamasaki has released ‘mimosa’ in celebration of her 27th anniversary. The track released digitally on April 8th, with the music video premiering yesterday, April 14th.
‘mimosa’ is a heartfelt ballad, asking the question of what Ayu would tell her younger self. The video matches this, with Ayu roaming a vast hall filled with giant images of herself from various albums and eras, eventually coming face to face with her younger self in the flesh.
Penned by Ayumi Hamasaki herself, the lyrics are reflective, realistic, and a little melancholy, with lines like “Just because you become an adult doesn’t mean everything goes smoothly, that’s why we keep moving forward, right?”.
The track also serves as the theme song for Fuji TV’s Zoku Zoku—Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi (Still, Still, My Second-to-Last Love), the third instalment of the Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi (Second-to-Last Love) series. Ayu is no stranger to the franchise—the show closed season one with her 2012 track ‘How Beautiful You Are’, and opened season two with ‘Hello New Me’ (2014).
Additionally, Ayu is due to head out on the second leg of her ayumi hamasaki ASIA TOUR 2025 I am ayu -ep.Ⅱ- tour. Full details will be announced soon.
