Tokyo-based trio anklet (アンクレット) will release their first EP ‘monologue’ on May 21st, building on the early momentum of their 2024 debut. The five-track release includes their first single ‘COLORS’, which arrived last July and introduced the group as a promising new name in the city’s independent band scene.
Formed in late 2023, anklet features Nanami Kadowaki (guitar/vocals), Manami Okina (bass), and Haruka Kurose (drums). The trio, all 20 years old, write with a focus on the uncertainty and optimism of early adulthood. Kadowaki took on lead vocals less than two months after picking up the guitar.

They’ve gained attention for direct, youthful songwriting and a growing presence in Tokyo’s live scene. Listeners praised their debut single for its polish and clarity. You-oh Oki (You-nison, Inc.), known for his work with BiSH, ASP, and ATARASHII GAKKO!, produced ‘COLORS’, while Satoshi Toyozumi of SCRAMBLES handled the composition.
‘monologue’ will cap off a productive first year for anklet, which included their self-organised debut live event Hajime no Ippo Nokoshitoku. (I’ll Leave Behind My First Step.) and a three-city tour across Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka under the banner Kinmokusei ga Furu Yoru (A Night of Falling Osmanthus). Although they haven’t revealed the full tracklist yet, anklet aim to build on their debut’s foundation with a mix of rock, pop, and ballads. Production is once again handled by You-oh Oki, who returns after shaping their debut.
The band plans to share more details, including release events and new material, in the coming weeks.
