YOASOBI team up with Witch Watch creators for ‘Watch me!’ music video

J-pop duo YOASOBI have released their latest single, ‘Watch me!’, today, May 18th. The track serves as the opening theme for the anime adaptation of Witch Watch, which is currently airing worldwide on Crunchyroll and across 28 stations on the MBS/TBS network in Japan.

Written by Ayase, ‘Watch me!’ takes lyrical inspiration from Kokoro Kororon, a short story written by Witch Watch creator Kenta Shinohara specifically for the project. Available on the Weekly Shonen Jump website, the story acts as a prologue, tracing the childhood of main characters Nico and Morihito and the early stages of their relationship.

The accompanying music video, fully animated by the Witch Watch production team, dropped alongside the digital release. It incorporates original cuts created for the video and select scenes from the series, capturing the series’ mix of humour, fantasy, and teenage awkwardness. Nico’s playful character comes through both in the animation and in ikura’s lively vocal delivery.

Witch Watch follows Nico Wakatsuki, a trainee witch, and her childhood friend Morihito Otogi, who possesses ogre powers and takes on the role of her protector. Bibury Animation Studio handles production for the anime adaptation of Shinohara’s manga, which currently runs in Weekly Shonen Jump, with Hiroshi Ikehata (Tonikawa, Flip Flappers) directing.

‘Watch me!’ lands amid a busy stretch for the duo. Earlier this month, YOASOBI picked up the Gold Prize at the 2025 JASRAC Awards for their 2023 global hit ‘Idol’, and featured in the YouTube Music Weekend series as part of the MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN lineup. In June, they’ll head to the UK for the first time, performing two nights at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on June 8th and 9th. The second date was added after the first sold out within moments. The shows follow their European festival debut at Primavera Sound Barcelona.
