New VK band DRUGS debuts with single ‘NEW ORDER’: Featuring members of Mejibray, Fukuro, ZORO, LIPLICH

New visual kei band DRUGS have formed, and released the video for their first single ‘NEW ORDER‘. The single released digitally across major streaming platforms on June 17th.

DRUGS features 4 members, all with previous VK history; on vocals is Tsuzuku (ex-Mejibray), Taizo (ex-ZORO) on guitar, Wataru Shindo (ex-LIPLICH) on bass, and on drums is Fukuro and ex-DADAROMA vocalist Yoshiatsu. The member announcement came as a surprise, particularly Yoshiatsu being on drums. In a post on Instagram, Yoshiatsu spoke about the project:

This may come as a surprise,
but I’ve decided to start another musical project.

This time, I won’t be singing—
I’ll be playing drums.

It’s a long story,
but if I had to name just one reason,
it’s because I feel the need to save something important
with the ideas only I can create.

I am the Joker.
And a Joker’s job is to deliver the unimaginable.
To gift you surprise.
To ignite revolution.

Please keep your eyes on both FUKURO and DRUGS.

I’m truly looking forward to the day I get to meet you.

Additionally, Yoshiatsu had been teasing the project for several days before the announcement, with fans becoming more hyped with each quick glimpse of the members. Bassist Wataru Shindo, also known for his work as a rope artist, hinted at the collaboration in a post on Instagram simply saying “I’m starting a new band that reflects my current style, combining music and shibari”.

The band’s first single, ‘NEW ORDER’ dropped yesterday along with a music video. It sees the band in what appears to be a BDSM club, with Wataru performing shibari (Japanese rope play) on a willing participant who hangs above the band. With a slightly creepy yet enticing sound, the track features a deep and undulating guitar and bassline, contrasting with the high pitches hit by Tsuzuku. His wails turn into maniacal laughter at the end, creating an overall unnerving atmosphere for the band’s debut.

The track comes from DRUGS upcoming first album, also titled ‘NEW ORDER’. It is yet to receive a release date.

As well as this, DRUGS have announced their first one-man live show, titled THE DRUGS. Taking place on Friday, December 19th, the live will be held at EDGE Ikebukuro. More information can be found on the band’s official website.
