Tokyo-based rock trio WENDY are taking their sound overseas with the international release of their debut album ‘Don’t waste my YOUTH’, landing October 13th via JPU Records. Originally released in Japan through Victor Entertainment in 2023, the album now receives its first international release on limited-edition vinyl and digital platforms.
Formed in October 2020 during Japan’s COVID lockdown, the Setagaya-born band have played major domestic festivals including SUMMER SONIC and METROCK. Their tight-knit English-language songwriting draws from 70s and 80s rock, glam, and hard rock, with a mix of contemporary production and occasional hip-hop stylings.
The band dropped their latest track ‘Pledge of Love’ on October 3rd, the final track on the upcoming international edition and one of two previously unreleased songs from their sessions with Grammy Award-winning producer Marc Whitmore (Jon Batiste, The Black Keys), who also produced the original album release. Commenting on the track, WENDY vocalist Skye said:
“I wrote ‘Pledge of Love’ when I was 18. It’s inspired by Romeo and Juliet. Two people in love, but everyone around them tries to keep them apart. I went through a similar experience back then, and that’s when the song was born. The message is simple: love who you want, and don’t be afraid to show it.”
To celebrate the international release, WENDY will play five shows in Los Angeles later this month, including dates at Whisky a Go Go and OC JAPAN FAIR, before making their UK debut in November. They’ll appear at Japan Underground’s 15th anniversary events in Birmingham on November 15th and London on the 17th. First launched in 2010, Japan Underground has previously hosted live sets from acts including FACT, [Alexandros], and Kero Kero Bonito.
As frontman Skye puts it:
“Japan will always be home, but our dream has always been to share WENDY’s music with the world. This is just the beginning, and we’re ready for it.”
