MAXIMUM THE HORMONE’s 2007 album ‘Bu-ikikaesu’ has been certified Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) as part of its December 2025 Gold Disc Certifications announcement.
RIAJ awards Double Platinum status to releases with cumulative shipments of 500,000 copies or more. The certification comes 19 years after the album’s release in March 2007.
‘Bu-ikikaesu’ (‘Come Back To Life’) was the release that brought MAXIMUM THE HORMONE into wider mainstream view during the mid-2000s. It became the band’s first album to place within the top 10 of the Oricon charts, debuting at No.5 and remaining on the chart for 78 weeks. The album includes ‘Koi no Mega Lover’, their first top ten single on Oricon in 2006, alongside ‘What’s Up, People?!’ and ‘Zetsubō Billy’, which were used as the opening and ending themes for the DEATH NOTE anime and introduced the band to audiences outside Japan.
The same RIAJ update also awarded Platinum certification to several other releases, including NMB48’s ‘Seishun no Deadline’ (single), ≠ME’s ‘Haitateki Fighter’ (single), King & Prince’s ‘STARRING’, Mrs. GREEN APPLE’s ‘5’, and TREASURE’s ‘TREASURE 3rd MINI ALBUM [LOVE PULSE]’. In total, 10 works across singles, albums, and video categories received new certifications for the month.
MAXIMUM THE HORMONE currently consist of Maximum the Ryokun (vocals and guitar), DAISUKE-HAN (vocals), Ue-Chan (bass), and Nao (drums and vocals). Their later album ‘Yoshu Fukushu’ reached No.1 on the Oricon Album Chart in 2013 and remains the band’s most recent full-length release.
RIAJ’s full December 2025 certified works list is available via its Gold Disc Certifications page.
