DECO*27 revives Heisei gyaru culture on new single ‘Love Para’

Vocaloid producer DECO*27 has released his latest track ‘Love Para’, a sugar-spun Eurobeat track featuring Hatsune Miku. The video dropped on May 1st, with the digital single following on May 2nd.

In keeping with the current gyaru resurgence, DECO*27 has brought Miku along for the drift in this heart pounding love letter to gyaru, Eurobeat, and para para, while also being a love song in itself. It updates Heisei-era gal culture for a Reiwa audience with lines like “a zero rizz kinda god-tier love”, and mixes classic gyaru slang with his own coined terms.

The shouted English words by Kevin of Kevin’s English Room, a popular cultural exchange YouTube channel, mimic the announcer from the DDR series of games, while the syrupy sweet vocals produced from Miku feel right at home with the high octane music and hyper-gyaru aesthetic.

Hayato Yamamoto co-arranged the track, previously working on ‘Monitoring’ and ‘Marshmallow’. The track also features a rare guitar solo, with DECO*27 noting on social media, “long time no see, guitar solo”.

Made by his creative team OTOIRO, the video is illustrated by HASSAN, who previously worked on ‘Vampire’ and ‘Stuckmoth’, and directed by lowpolydog, who handled art direction and packaging for DECO*27’s ninth album ‘TRANSFORM’.

Miku appears in full gyaru attire down to a glittery pink d.i.a inspired belt. We get to see her dancing para para in DDR-style scenes, flattening into 2D like Parappa the Rapper, and drifting through Initial D-style mountain passes in a hot pink car. The video is full of references for those in the know.

For anyone wanting to learn the para para routine, DECO*27 has been sharing snippets of the routine on his official Instagram page, with choreography by Asibuto Penta.

‘Love Para’ is available across streaming platforms now. Watch the video below.
