AKASAKI cancels record-breaking world tour weeks after announcing it

AKASAKI has cancelled every date of his first world tour, AKASAKI 1st World Tour “ONIGIRI”, three weeks after announcing it, and just over a week after European tickets went on sale. The announcement was made on August 13th across the artist’s official site and social media, citing “a number of internal circumstances” as the reason.

The cancellation covers all 11 shows: the overseas leg through Melbourne, Sydney, Paris, Cologne, London, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Taipei, as well as the three Japanese homecoming dates at Zepp Nagoya, Zepp Namba, and Zepp Haneda. The tour had been due to open on October 15th in Melbourne and run through to January 3rd in Tokyo.

In their statement, the AKASAKI staff apologised to fans and partners for the disruption. “We offer our sincerest apologies to everyone who had been looking forward to these performances, as well as to all of our partners and local parties, for the considerable inconvenience and concern this causes”, the notice read. “We are truly sorry that we were unable to meet your expectations, and we humbly ask for your continued support of AKASAKI going forward”.

Ticket refunds will be handled by each local promoter, and fans are asked to check the official channels of the promoter for their show for the latest information. Separately, those who joined AKASAKI’s official fan club AKAchan’s as paid members between July 23rd and August 11th, the window for the tour’s advance ticket ballot, will be refunded their first month’s membership fee, with details to follow on the fan club site.

No further reason for the cancellation has been given beyond the reference to internal circumstances.
