Newspeak have announced their first new song since going independent, ‘Deadman’s Constellation’, along with an eight-city Japan tour.
The Tokyo trio confirmed on Friday August 28th that the single will land digitally on September 16th, their first release in around nine months. They will then launch “Port Primal”, the event series they announced alongside their independence, in Shibuya this October before taking it around the country.
Everything on the track came from the band themselves, who handled it from recording through to mixing and mastering. It arrives just over five months after Newspeak announced that their contracts with Warner Music Japan and management company Jisedai Inc. had come to an end, and that the band’s next phase would run in partnership with SELEBRO Inc., whose roster includes envy and Crystal Lake.
The band’s vocalist Rei called it “a primitive track that feels fitting to celebrate Newspeak setting sail on a new journey”, adding that the band are “taking the helm ourselves and heading to eight cities, so let’s meet face to face!”.
The band first announced “Port Primal” back in April as a way of deepening the culture around Newspeak and opening a space where audiences can enjoy music freely. NIKO NIKO TAN TAN were confirmed as special guests for the Tokyo edition earlier this month, and it goes ahead at Shibuya WWW on October 12th.
Newspeak then take “Port Primal” out of Shibuya starting this December. A step up from their 3-date headline tour earlier this year under their former management; this one visits eight cities across December 2026 and February 2027, finishing at Daikanyama UNIT. Performers, opening times, and ticket details for those dates are still to be announced. Before that, Newspeak play RUSH BALL 2026 EXTRA SHOW at Yogibo HOLY MOUNTAIN in Osaka on August 31st.

About Newspeak
Newspeak are a Tokyo three-piece rock band formed in 2017, comprising Seattle-born vocalist and songwriter Rei, Canadian drummer Steven, and Kagawa-born bassist Yohey. The band made an immediate impression on Japan's live circuit, appearing at SUMMER SONIC in their first year and later opening Japanese dates for The Fratellis and Mando Diao. Newspeak made their major-label debut through Warner Music Japan in October 2022 with 'Leviathan', which was used as a commercial theme for the Honda FIT e:HEV, before releasing their self-titled major debut album in July 2024. Their activity extended beyond Japan, with performances in South Korea, Taiwan, and India. In April 2026, Newspeak completed their contracts with Warner Music Japan and previous management company Jisedai and began operating independently in partnership with SELEBRO Inc..
