wagamama turn being a mess into an anthem on new single ‘N0 PLAN N0ISE’

Tokyo three-piece wagamama release their new single ‘N0 PLAN N0ISE’ on September 9th. It arrives after ‘Super Bubble Crush’, the EP the band issued in June, and continues the run of releases they have made since returning as a trio in late 2025.

wagamama started in 2022 as a four-piece and lost two of their members at the end of 2024, coming back with Ryoko (vocals) and shizupi (bass) joined by guitarist Nemo. Their sound sits between J-pop and Japanese rock, with funk and soul phrasing under Ryoko’s high-register vocals, a combination the band call “Wagamama Pop”.

shizupi produces the group as well as playing bass, and has the most established track record of the three. She played in Chelsy until their split in 2018 and has since worked as a session and support musician for artists including Kana Nishino, Koresawa, and J-pop powerhouse duo YOASOBI.

Ryoko’s lyric describes singing in someone else’s key and getting carried along by someone else’s rhythm, before turning the unwanted noise of the title into something worth celebrating. Her writing for this line-up has circled similar ground since the band reconvened, which places the single within a continuing thread about being out of step with everyone around you.

The new single is the first with composition credits to Nemo, with all previous singles released under the current line-up composed by shizupi.

About wagamama

wagamama are a Tokyo band formed in May 2022, now a three-piece of vocalist Ryoko, guitarist Nemo, and bassist shizupi. Their self-described "Wagamama Pop" draws on J-pop and Japanese rock while weaving in funk and soul-inspired phrasing. The band originally formed as a four-piece with guitarist Ichiro (ex-Tokyo Karankoron) and drummer Taro Nakae (butterfly inthe stomach). They released their first EP, 'Strawberry Flavor Sick', in 2022 and later issued music through Happinet Music / KURAMAE RECORDS, including 'PINKY MAGIC SODA' and 'EVER DANCING FLAMINGO'. In December 2024, Ichiro and Nakae announced their departures. The four-piece played their final show at Harajuku RUIDO on January 13th, 2025, before wagamama paused activities while preparing a new line-up. wagamama returned in late 2025 with Nemo on guitar and the single 'Garakuta-Goraku'. They followed with 'niramekko', 'Dummy Girl', and 'yubisaki-marble' in early 2026, then the five-track EP 'Super Bubble Crush' in June. Their official fanclub presents the record as the first EP of wagamama's second chapter. Alongside the band, shizupi works as a session and support bassist. Performing as SHIZUKA, she made her major-label debut with Chelsy through Sony Music in 2014, then spent around two years performing in the United States after the group disbanded in 2018. Since returning to Japan, her work has included Koresawa's 2024 Hibi Kaikai Kai tour, synth bass for Kana Nishino on THE FIRST TAKE, the Japanese production of the musical SIX, and global J-pop flag bearers YOASOBI. She self-produces wagamama's music and oversees their creative direction.
