Miso Extra Great Escape Festival

Miso Extra is creating the best Japanese hip-hop in London

London-based rapper and producer Miso Extra is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated up-and-coming artists of 2022, and after listening to her fresh take on hip-hop it’s easy to see why.

She had been honing her skills alone in her bedroom prior to countrywide lockdowns in 2020 which gave her an opportunity to focus on her ideas and start crafting material for public ears.

In 2021 Miso Extra released her first set of singles that brought together a dreamy hip-hop sound with bilingual lyrics that embrace both her English and Japanese heritage. Self described as being raised on anime, Bend it Like Beckham and old school hip-hop, she also mixes in themes of female empowerment and pop culture references.

Her latest single Deep Fried celebrates the overwhelming feeling of being infatuated with someone, comparing it to the experience of eating deep fried food. It’s a true dance bop that’s driven by a hypnotic beat, elevated by juicy bass and her stand-out vocal style that seamlessly melds the sounds of London and Tokyo’s rap scenes.

As well as joining the line-up for DIY Alive Festival in April, Miso Extra will be performing at The Great Escape Festival this May.

From May 11th to 14th The Great Escape Festival returns to Brighton for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Serving as the UK’s biggest new music showcase, the festival will feature hundreds of emerging artists from all over the world in 30+ venues across the city.

Miso Extra’s forthcoming debut 5-track EP Great Taste is due for release later this year via Beatnik Creative.
