Electric Bloom Webzine is on a mission to bridge the gap between Japanese music and English-speaking audiences — and we’re looking for passionate, self-motivated contributors to join us. If you’re someone who keeps tabs on new releases, obsesses over liner notes, and wants to share Japan’s most exciting artists with a wider audience, we want to hear from you.
Who We Are
Electric Bloom Webzine launched in 2011 as an independent UK-based platform that spotlights Japan’s emerging talent and industry legends. We’re a small, collaborative team working remotely to deliver focused, insightful coverage to a growing global readership.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for volunteers who are driven by curiosity, love writing about music, and want to build their portfolio in music journalism. You can contribute in the following areas:
- News contributions: Cover breaking news, upcoming releases, tour announcements, and major artist updates.
- Album and live reviews: Provide clear, considered takes on recent releases and performances. See also our live reports.
- Features: Write in-depth pieces that explore artists’ evolution, cultural impact, industry oddities, or overlooked gems.
- Interviews: Help shape conversations with artists — from indie newcomers to established names — that offer real insight and perspective.
This is a remote, volunteer position open to contributors worldwide. Whether you want to contribute once a month or more regularly, we’re open to flexible involvement based on your availability.
What You’ll Get
- Published writing credits: Build your writing portfolio with published work on a growing platform dedicated to Japanese music.
- Access and networking: Gain experience reaching out to labels, publicists, and artists, with the potential to take part in press coverage and interviews.
- Creative freedom: Pitch stories you care about. We’re here to support original ideas and strong editorial voices.
How to Apply
Introduce yourself, tell us why you’re interested in EBW, and share a sample of your writing to charles@electricbloomwebzine.com. Let us know the kind of content you’re most interested in writing — and feel free to share your top five favourite artists while you’re at it.
We review applications on a rolling basis — there’s no deadline to get in touch.
We’re always looking to collaborate with writers who are serious about music and want their work to reach the right audience.
