Shoegaze icons Plastic Tree tell tales with ‘Märchen’, new album on the way

Alt rock veterans Plastic Tree have released the full version of their new single ‘Märchen’, ahead of their new self-titled album releasing on May 29th.

The word ‘märchen’ comes from German, and means ‘fairytale’. The video captures this theme with shadow puppet fairytales being played out before us, interlaced with shadowy and atmospheric shots of the band. The song, as expected, is a gently haunting shoegaze track with a mysterious and melancholy feeling. Lead singer Ryutaro Arimura’s vocals are particularly dreamlike in quality here, softly singing through the verses before raising his voice for the chorus.

On release day, Plastic Tree will hold a special NicoNico live broadcast to celebrate the new album. The show will start at 9pm JST on Wednesday May 29th, with the first half being available for all viewers. The second half will be exclusive for NicoNico premium members.

Additionally, the new album will have a special edition available containing a DVD and book as extras.

The band are also about to embark upon their Spring Tour 2024, commemorating 30 years of Plastic Tree, playing 7 shows across Japan.
