Helsinki Lambda Club kick off their remix series with a bang as the British indie pop band Swim Deep deliver their take on the hit single ‘Good News Is Bad News’. The remix, titled ‘Good News Is Bad News – Swim Deep Slowcore Remix’, is slated for release on April 17th, but fans can get an early listen on the band’s Soundcloud page.
Originally released in 2019, ‘Good News Is Bad News’ showcased Helsinki Lambda Club’s trademark amalgamation of garage rock influences with solid, rugged guitar work. Swim Deep takes this indie dancefloor hit in a completely new direction, slowing it down and infusing it with their signature slowcore style.

Vocalist Austin Williams shared his excitement about the project, expressing admiration for the Japanese band’s music and culture.
“When I heard this great band from Japan, one of our favourite countries in terms of music/passion/movies and art, I jumped at the idea. The song was already an indie dancefloor hit and I wanted to do it justice, so I took it in a totally opposite direction and slowed it down by half, drawing inspiration from my favourite slowcore artists like Low and Galaxie 500, and took the beautiful melodies of Helsinki Lambda Club’s ‘Good News Is Bad News’ and made them stoned in an eternal dream.”
Kaoru Hashimoto, vocalist and guitarist of Helsinki Lambda Club, also expressed his joy about the remix.
“We’re thrilled to have our song remixed by our beloved Swim Deep! It’s not just a remix but almost like a cover, and we were really surprised and happy to hear them sing it. We’ve been fans of Swim Deep since their first album, with their beautiful synth-pop and shoegaze elements mixed with an undeniable acid and mischief. Their music and fashion have influenced us a lot. After their first album, they’ve shown an even greater willingness to experiment with various genres, and their sense of crossover and pure enjoyment of music align with ours in many ways. That’s why we thought they would be happy to accept this remix request. The song they remixed is ‘Good News Is Bad News,’ which was originally a solid garage tune, but they transformed it into a new interpretation that reflects their style, making me feel the freedom of music once again. We’ll be touring in the UK in May, and I hope this remix becomes one of the bridges for that tour. We’d love to perform live with them someday. Collaboration across borders, please give it a listen.”
Additionally, Helsinki Lambda Club are set to embark on their 4-date UK tour , commencing at the Hope & Anchor in London on May 14th, followed by Birmingham, and two sets at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
