Asunojokei made the best post-hardcore tracks of 2021 you haven’t heard

Asunojokei released two of the strongest post-hardcore singles of the year in 2021, but most likely they went right under your radar.

Influenced by J-rock powerhouses like DIR EN GREY, MUCC, and COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS, as well as western metal units such as ARCH ENEMY, Deafheaven and KISS, Asunojokei (formed in 2014) gained a cult following with their 2018 album Awakening that showcased the band’s black metal shoegaze hybrid sound that combines harsh hardcore vocals with angular melodies, heavy drums, and gentle ambient interludes.

However their latest singles Chimera and From the Bottom of the Biotope see the band take a more melodic post-hardcore approach to their sound while retaining the throat shredding black metal vocals (think Deafheaven meets Touché Amoré) in turn creating two of the hardest hitting tracks of the year that are a must listen for any fans of the genre.

2021 also saw Asunojokei featured on the bonus second disc of the NieR Replicant soundtrack Weiss Edition with their cover of City of Commerce by esteemed anime and video game music composer Keiichi Okabe.

In October UK-based independent record label Dog Knights Productions released a limited run vinyl reissue of Awakening which included Chimera and two 2021 remixes as bonus tracks.
