CHAI, the pioneers of NEO KAWAII, have released their final music video, ‘MATCHA’, marking the end of their 12-year journey. Featured on their 2023 self-titled album, the track serves as a somewhat melancholic conclusion to CHAI’s career, creatively intertwining themes of self-love with the traditional Japanese art of sadō.

To accompany the video release, vocalist MANA shared a farewell message with their fans, encouraging them to take time for self-reflection and embrace individuality.

CHAI is MATCHA ! MATCHA IS CHAI! It’s exactly that! Matcha taught us the importance of reflecting our inner selves, and that we are all free to be whoever and whatever we want to be❤ Whisk yourself some matcha tea, and maybe you’ll see the side of yourself you were scared to face, or a new side of you you’ve never seen before❤ Let us know if you do – until that day, see ya♡

The release precedes the commencement of their final tour, ‘We The CHAI Tour!’, starting on January 28th in Hokkaido and concluding on March 12th at Tokyo’s EX THEATER ROPPONGI. The disbandment, announced earlier this year, signifies a collective decision to pursue individual paths while cherishing their unique legacy.

The fan reaction to CHAI’s disbandment has been a mix of sadness and gratitude. Many express sorrow over the potential loss of the band, with comments reflecting on their personal connections to CHAI’s music and the impact it had on their lives. However, amidst the sadness, there is an outpouring of love and appreciation for the band’s work, with fans thanking CHAI for the music and expressing support for the members in their future endeavours.
