Tokyo-based band N.K.W.O.R.S (猫を堕ろす) are preparing for the release of their latest album, ‘Essence of Pop’, slated to drop on February 7th. The band, formed in Nagoya in 2013 and later relocating to Tokyo, has gained a cult following with their electronic cross pop-rock sound.
‘Essence of Pop’ will encapsulate N.K.W.O.R.S’s deep dive into the realm of pop music. The vibrant electronics on their last album intertwine with tracks reminiscent of their earlier, more purely rock-focused days.
In the lead-up to the album’s release, the band published their latest music video for the track ‘door’, directed by Suspended 4th guitarist and former band member, Seiya Sawada. The song navigates themes of introspection, escapism, and the complexities of human relationships, packaged in a rockier sound reminiscent of their older releases.
Additionally, N.K.W.O.R.S will embark on their 3-date ‘Pop Tour’ starting February 10th, with dates in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya confirmed.

N.K.W.O.R.S, originally hailing from Nagoya, found their roots in the shared musical interests of its core members: Kaoru, Shijun, and Natsu. Kaoru’s musical evolution, from early piano lessons to diverse genre exploration, shapes the band’s sound. Their approach balances live sound orientation with DTM-style electronic music, emphasising the significance of physical equipment. Influenced by artists like Weezer, Passion Pit, and rapper Shing02, N.K.W.O.R.S craft a sound that blends the organic with the digital, fostering a cohesive musical identity rooted in personal connections and diverse influences.
