Yoshiki produced XY show dual styles in ‘GET STUPID’ and ‘YG’

XY, the Yoshiki produced boyband and rock band, have released new singles ‘GET STUPID’ and ‘YG’.

XY’s website states that “The members of both groups fluidly switch back and forth between each other, morphing and changing their activities just like an amoeba, so to speak”. The band consists of KYOHEY (Dr), KAIRI (Gt), FURUTATSU (Ba), KARMA (Vo), and GAI (Vo). The dance and vocal group is JAY, HAYATO, RAIA, KICE, KANJI, P→★, MITCHY, and KOSEI.

‘YG’ from the rock band side of XY, released on June 7th, is a heavy rock track which features a distorted breakdown, English and Japanese lyrics, and boyband-like vocals from singers KARMA and GAI. The band’s late lead singer Yoshi, along with drummer KYOHEY and GAI, penned the lyrics.

In stark contrast is ‘GET STUPID’ from the boyband side of XY. The track is very much a pop track, with hip hop and R&B elements, and features a heavy bassline along with clean harmonies from the members. The 8 members of the dance and vocal side of XY lean into K-pop territory here with their looks and sound, while having a level of edge and polish you can expect from a Yoshiki produced project.

About XY

XY are made up of 13 members, divided into two groups- a rock band, and a boyband. The group came about in 2023 after completing Yoshiki’s talent search TV show ‘Yoshiki Superstar Project X’. Yoshiki also produces both sides of the group. Tragedy struck the group early on when 19 year old lead vocalist Yoshi was killed in an accident. The group released the song ‘XY feat. Yoshi’ on February 26th 2023, which would have been Yoshi’s 20th birthday, using vocals recorded before his untimely passing. The group’s first official single ‘Crazy Love’ featured all 13 members together and combined the piano playing of Yoshiki, with the rockier sounds of the XY band, and the pop sounds of the XY vocal group. The group also made their European debut in 2023 with Yoshiki at Japan Expo in France.
