Utaha releases video for jazz-tinged R&B collab single ‘bonsai feat.CENT’

Utaha (WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA) has released the video for her latest single, ‘bonsai feat.CENT’, and announced a two-man show with CENT. The single originally released back on December 18th, with the video dropping on February 14th.

‘bonsai feat.CENT’ is a relaxed pop track with hints of jazz, hip hop, and R&B, reminiscent of the late 90s and early 00s. Both Utaha and CENT (ex-BiSH) took on songwriting duties. The video opens with Utaha lip syncing into her phone camera while CENT has a photoshoot, before running out into the streets for a nighttime adventure. It offers a sweet glimpse into the real life close friends’ relationship. The music video is directed by GROUPN who have previously worked with go!go!vanillas, Regal Lily, Mega Shinnosuke, and more.

In an interview with Real Sound, CENT noted about their friendship:

“At first, we were invited to appear on the same TV project. It was a program that brought together people who aren’t very good at socializing and don’t seem to have many friends (laughs). But we didn’t become close that day, and we only exchanged greetings and didn’t really make eye contact before leaving. But I personally respected Utaha, and I really liked the drama she was in, so I sent her a message to let her know how moved I was. Then she invited me to dinner.”

CENT may seem familiar to idol fans, as a founding member of BiSH, which disbanded in June 2023. Also a founding member of WACK shuffle unit HOLY SHiTS, she graduated in January 2024. She began her solo journey in 2022.

Additionally, Utaha and CENT have announced a two-man show titled bonsai Release Memorial Event. The show is scheduled for April 9th at Shibuya Ongakudo, LD&K’s new live house which opened this month. Tickets are available on a lottery basis now from ticket PIA.

It has also been announced that Utaha will be in the live-action movie adaption of Paripi Koumei (Ya Boy Kongming!) as singer-songwriter Shin. Utaha was previously featured in episode 9 of the drama adaption as a Tower Records customer. Queen Bee’s Avu-chan will reprise their role as Maria Diesel. The movie is slated for release in Japan on April 25th.

Plus, for gaming fans, Utaha has begun streaming on twitch. She notes she’ll be “Streaming whenever I want to play my favourite games”.
