Will Smith has added his own remix to Yuki Chiba’s viral single ‘Team Tomodachi’, making it the latest addition to the track’s remix lineup since its release in February.
While Smith’s name brings further global recognition to Chiba’s hit, his remix arrives 9 months after ‘Team Tomodachi’ sparked international attention and prompted a series of remixes from US artists like Duke Deuce and Bun B, as well as Japan’s own Jin Dogg, ¥ellow Bucks, Watson, and many others. Since its release, the track has achieved widespread success, drawing in fans across Japan and beyond, and positioning Chiba—formerly known as KOHH—as one of the most talked-about artists in Japanese hip-hop this year.

On October 30th, the former Fresh Prince announced the remix to his 70 million Instagram followers, writing in both English and Japanese: “My turn. Team Tomodachi (Will Smith Remix) coming 11.1″. Chiba’s ‘Team Tomodachi’, which began as an in-group phrase among members of Osaka’s DIRTY KANSAI hip-hop collective, has since evolved into a movement, amplified by fans and fellow artists alike.
Alongside the remix’s release, Smith shared a teaser video showing him rapping his verse on the track while cruising in the passenger seat of one of his luxury cars, which quickly drew over 3.5 million views.
Will Smith’s ‘Team Tomodachi’ remix, though slower to gain traction than previous versions on platforms like YouTube and Spotify, remains the highest-profile Western contribution to Chiba’s hit.
