HANA shoot down clones in mud-soaked music video for debut single ‘ROSE’

HANA, the seven-member girl group formed through the BMSG and CHANMINA-led audition programme No No Girls, have released their major label debut single, ‘ROSE’. Out now via NO LABEL MUSIC / Sony Music Labels Inc., the track arrives alongside a music video directed by Kim Youngjo, which premiered earlier today.

Produced by CHANMINA, ‘ROSE’ offers a fast-paced, assertive introduction to HANA’s sound, foregrounding themes of defiance and collective strength. The track draws from the ethos of No No Girls, a project built on overturning industry rejection. That narrative also reflects CHANMINA’s own path through Japan’s music scene.

The music video, shot in South Korea, features both solo and group performance scenes, centered around a mud-drenched dance sequence. Director Kim Youngjo, who previously worked with CHANMINA on the NG video, the theme for No No Girls, returns here to visually extend the group’s origin story.

The video sets HANA against a world of robotic clones, a clear stand-in for industry conformity. CHIKA targets them with a sniper rifle; JISOO outwits a clone in a tense card game; MAHINA sets off explosives. YURI faces her counterpart with a katana, while KOHARU and NAOKO both escape confinement. MOMOKA appears styled as a digital-era empress, a nod to the pressures of visibility in the age of social media.

The muddy group performance scene marks a sharp contrast to the polished settings that precede it—rejecting surface-level perfection in favour of grit and vulnerability. Notably, the colour red is largely absent, despite the song’s title. The ambiguity of ROSE, read as both the flower and the past tense of “rise”, frames the debut as a declaration of growth on their own terms.

HANA’s member were selected from over 7,000 applicants across Japan, Korea, and the US. The audition process, designed by CHANMINA and BMSG founder SKY-HI, emphasised vocal tone and lived experience over conventional idol criteria. The full series is available to watch on YouTube.

Their debut arrives on a significant date for CHANMINA. April 2nd is referenced in her 2017 song ‘She’s Gone’ as a turning point in her career, and now also marks the official relaunch of her label NO LABEL MUSIC under Sony Music Labels.

“I’m absolutely overjoyed that my beloved label, NO LABEL MUSIC, is getting a power-up and a fresh restart. Teaming up with Sony Music, I’m tightening my focus so I can continue delivering music that’s true to who I am, while striving for even greater growth. With a big sound, a big voice, and big love, I hope you’ll continue to support both NO LABEL MUSIC and CHANMINA as we keep evolving and growing.”

HANA marked the release with a livestream on their official YouTube channel, featuring CHANMINA, a Q&A, behind-the-scenes footage, and the group’s first live performance of the track.
