Visual supergroup sukekiyo have just premiered their latest music video for the track ‘Valentina’. The song was originally released as a limited demo tape in 2021, with the 2024 version being taken from the group’s upcoming “complete audio and video compilation” album ‘Ius Cerebri / Sinistro Cerebrum’.
Following the theme of the last few sukekiyo releases, ‘Valentina’ is a goth tinged 80s style pop number. Featuring sparkling elements, and some sweet keytar, it’s a stark contrast to frontman Kyo’s other bands, DIR EN GREY, and Petit Brabancon. The chorus features the repeated lyrics “Do you need me?”, and lyrically as a whole the track is a raw look at love. The pleas for validation and love are laced with a fear of rejection. Dancey and nostalgic instrumentation balances out Kyo’s emotional and sometimes cryptic lyrics.
sukekiyo re-recorded ‘Valentina’ for their first compilation album, ‘Ius Cerebri / Sinistro Cerebrum’, set to release on July 24th. This 27-track double album will feature the top picks from their 10-year career across two discs, each with one new track: ‘Valentina’ on ‘Ius Cerebri’ and ‘Sesshoku’ on ‘Sinistro Cerebrum’. Additionally, the compilation includes two re-recorded tracks, ‘zephyr’ and ‘naburi’. A special edition set will also be available, featuring a DVD with music videos and a documentary.
